A Mountain of Anime News Landed During the Festive Season

The Yuletide season present a wealth of pursuits far superior than checking the updates: discovering surprises, indulging in holiday treats, and using patience techniques to refrain from arguing with relatives. It is wished you managed to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments emerged over the holidays, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Perhaps the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter the series' continuation. The show will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. However, the key visual for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, by now, they are probably mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now everyone is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been going on for years, and season 6 was another stellar entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season

Shortly after the conclusion of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
