Harvard ex-president Summers Leaves from ChatGPT Maker's Leadership
Ex-Treasury chief Lawrence Summers is departing from the board at OpenAI, just several days after a batch of electronic messages between him and notorious criminal Jeffrey Epstein became public.
Summers remarked in a release that he was "appreciative for the opportunity to have contributed, optimistic about the potential of the enterprise, and look forward tracking their progress".
The prominent academic, who formerly headed the Ivy League institution, declared on recently that he would be withdrawing from public responsibilities due to his connections with Epstein.

The newly public messages revealed that the economist communicated with Jeffrey Epstein until the day before his 2019 detention for suspected trafficking of minors.
In additional comments, the technology organization expressed it accepted Summers' determination to depart.

A collection of Epstein-related messages disclosed by the Congressional committee days ago included several high-profile figures in the financier's past associates, without indicating any criminal activity by those figures.
The messages indicated that the economist and Jeffrey Epstein dined together frequently, with the billionaire often seeking to connect Summers to prominent international personalities.

After the messages were made available with the public, he said he assumed "full responsibility for my ill-advised decision to maintain corresponding with the financier".
He added that he desired "to reestablish trust and fix relationships with the persons nearest to me".

The professor served in senior posts under party leaders; serving as treasury secretary under President Clinton, and as head of the White House economic team under Barack Obama.

Following the economist's statement on Monday, the Center for American Progress, a progressive research organization in the capital where he was a prominent member, announced that Summers was no longer affiliated with the institution.
