High-Level Alert for Northern and Western Scotland
An amber wind warning is in place for areas within Scotland's northern and western regions, where weather authorities are cautioning about electricity outages and flying debris that could pose a risk to life.
A less severe yellow alert for gusts has been issued for Scotland and Northern Ireland in their entirety, as well as north-west England and Wales, until Saturday evening.

Weather Warnings Across the UK
Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland and north-west England also have a yellow rain warning currently issued.
Parts of Northern Ireland were under an amber wind warning earlier on Friday, and hundreds of schools closed early as a safety measure.
About 50,000 properties there are presently experiencing power outages, as reported by utility providers.
Local police authorities said the rail network was suspended due to widespread tree falls, while airport officials cautioned travelers to verify their flight's status before flying.
The yellow wind warning for these affected regions will continue until midnight on Saturday.
A yellow "heavy rain" warning affecting extensive areas of Scotland will persist until Saturday midnight.
Transportation Issues and Service Cancellations
- Several ScotRail services and boat services were called off ahead of the storm's arrival.
- Certain bridges will be off-limits to high-sided transport.
- ScotRail said all services out of Glasgow Central have been halted until at least 14:00 on Saturday.
The Trajectory of Storm Amy
Storm Amy - the first named storm of the season will travel northward across the UK through Friday evening, when wind speeds are expected to be at their highest.
A chilly weather system will also sink southwards, bringing intense rainfall.
During the night, the gusts will reach their maximum across Scotland as heavy rain sweeps southeast across Wales and England, before lessening in intensity later on Saturday.
Despite Saturday remaining quite gusty, there will be a mixture of sunny spells and showers, mainly occurring over northern and western parts of the UK.
Forecast for the Weekend
Come Sunday, Amy will have progressed further into the North Sea so it will be more settled with reduced wind for the weekend's conclusion.
The next storm name will be Bram. A fresh set of names is issued every year by weather officials before the storm season begins in September with both names for both genders picked by citizens.
Storms can be named by either the UK's Met Office, Ireland's Met Éireann, or the Netherlands' KNMI when consequences are expected as "medium to high."
